BALLAD has entered the building!
If there was a thought bubble above my head right now, it would contain this:

If you're thinking, but that's nothing, you would be right. Because my mind has shorted out.

Barnes & Noble is now listing Ballad as "in stock" and available to ship! Early! I always get all psychologically prepared for the big release date and then reliably get my legs pulled out from under me when it gets in stock early.

Plus, I just got my author copies on Friday. Which means I'll be shipping out contest winners' books too. And the lovely fun contest, the funnest of them all, will be going up on Tuesday.

But for now WHOOHOO! Ballad is in the house!*

*and as always, if you want to make an author very happy and you're going to buy their book, do it it's released when at all possible, because it makes their numbers more shiny. And authors like shiny numbers. Just sayin'. Please?

Do pre ordered books make your numbers shiny? And what is biofeedback? It sounds like something I should know about for my work. Did you know that during meditation I've experienced what its like to be a wolf. Out of body in animal. You're more conscious of the heart beating and vision is peripheral and scent directed. I wonder if I hear the heart because its not mine. Cogratulations for all your news.
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 21st, 2009 01:04 am (UTC)
They do indeed make your numbers shiny -- they count towards first week sales when they all ship so make it more likely that you'll list, if you're going to. I don't THINK that Ballad had enough pre-pub buzz to list, but hey, might as well stack the deck if I can. ;)

And biofeedback is fascinating. It's people who can raise and lower their blood pressure, body temperature, etc., by training themselves to consciously manipulate things controlled by the automatic nervous system. It supposedly can help heal migraines, tension headaches, high blood pressure, all kinds of stuff (none of which is why I was looking at it). Google it. Fascinating!! I can definitely see it being useful for your line of work.

And thank you!!
prophet1[info]simonhay_healer on September 21st, 2009 01:45 am (UTC)
I'll have to look into that. I already feel I manipulate the nervous system when I work. Its explaining how I do it that's tricky. Thanks.
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 21st, 2009 02:25 am (UTC)
I can see that. That's basically what biofeedback is as I understand it -- explaining it to each person's body in such a way that they can do it themselves.

That's awesome! None yet in my local stores though, which makes me sad cuz I wanna go look at a copy in person and witness that lovely flame cover. I'll be buying a copy (hopefully) at your launch though!
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 21st, 2009 01:04 am (UTC)
I have a feeling it's just hit B/N warehouses now and not yet stores. And yay launch! And yay that reminds me I need to coordinate the before hand festivities.

Woot payday is the day before it comes out! I'm so excited for you! It doesn't seem like it was just a couple months ago when I picked up Lament & promptly began recommending it to anyone & everyone. B&N here I come ;)

P.S. I also requested it in our library ;)
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 21st, 2009 02:24 am (UTC)
Woooohoooo! Thank you on both counts. And I was just thinking . . . I can't believe one year ago I was going "OMG LAMENT IS OUT!"

Just got my copy too
And I got Lament, 'cause I haven't read it yet. If they're anything like Shiver, I know I'll love them. I noticed that someone asked you for book plates ... would you send one for each of my books too?

OMG

Guess what?????

I'm in the UK as you very well know, and Ballad isn't released until November here, which I was none to pleased with.

So, when you posted on Twitter it was showing on Barnes and Nobles as in stock, I was green with envy at all you americans.

Then, I had a total light bulb moment. There is this little website here in the UK, which stocks American books. It's where I got my copy of Shiver from, and it was delivered BEFORE 1 August, to which I was very happy indeed.

I went and checked, and they have Ballad in stock!!!!!!! That means I get to read it at the same time as you guys and not have to wait. Seriously, anyone from the UK, get on over to this website and order the book!!!

http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/book/9780738714844/Ballad

I even posted the linky which opens straight on the Ballad page, because i'm kind like that.

I nearly fainted, thats how excited I was ; )
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 21st, 2009 03:45 pm (UTC)
WOW! There it is! I can't believe it!!!

jamileigh17[info]jamileigh17 on September 21st, 2009 11:23 pm (UTC)
Ok, is it just me being fail, or is Shiver the only one that has a hardback version? *wants hardbacks on all your stuff so they all match, dernit!*
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 22nd, 2009 01:13 am (UTC)
indeed, that's the only one in hardcover. Everything after this point will come out in hardcover first, but I'm afraid those two are only in pb. . . though there's rumors of library editions.
jamileigh17[info]jamileigh17 on September 22nd, 2009 02:10 am (UTC)
Okay, when the library editions come out, let me know please, especially if they're available to the public as well in those forms...

No worries, just means I have to snag the pb of Shiver too, oh dern the bad luck, really. ;) (Considering I've already got it facing on my bookshelf...)
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 22nd, 2009 11:00 am (UTC)
Hahaha! Well, thanks.

Happyhappyjoyjoy! Mine is ordered (from BetterWorld, which oddly has only one new copy - they better get that one out to me before someone else grabs it!)
Julie Kagawa[info]sylverkit on September 23rd, 2009 06:12 pm (UTC)
I just did a WoW post on Ballad, in limmerick! I submit, for your amusement:

There once was a witty young gent
Who played the 'loyal best friend' in Lament.
Now he must choose
Between his best friend and Muse
Before the King of the Dead collects rent.

Congrats to you! I'm super excited to read Ballad; I've been waiting for it every since I finished Lament.
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on September 28th, 2009 06:56 pm (UTC)
Hahahahahhah!!! Soo funny.
