Three Things on a Thursday
1. If you have been hoping and praying and begging for a live chat with Maggie Stiefvater, your hopes/ prayers/ beggings have been answered by Wild Things Book Club on Goodreads -- I'm doing a chat with them tomorrow at noon, EST. That's here.

2. I know you always wanted to see footage of giant snails. So I'm hooking you up with that here. Don't say I never gave you anything.

3. I think I'm all ready for NaNo. I'm just finishing up my synopsis -- do you guys want me to talk in more detail about how I'm prepping?

Re: snails... why? Just why? Why would put one on your arm, let alone two, let alone obviously OWN one, let alone two? *is totally befuddled*

GL on Nano!
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 29th, 2009 01:57 pm (UTC)
Because they would be lonesome otherwise. Even giant slugs need love. C'mon.

And out of the red, out of her head she sang...[info]pandorasblog on October 29th, 2009 01:34 pm (UTC)
I'm all for the detail on NaNo prepping - every couple of years I think I really should do NaNo, but I always get intimidated by the sheer volume of work, and I'm always interested in how people handle it.

Giant snails - it's the antennae I find particularly mesmerising, somehow...
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 29th, 2009 01:57 pm (UTC)
Well, I've never tried it seriously before, but I'm going to pretend it's the same as writing any other time.

*shutter* I loath snails! I hate anything that crawls except for babies. I read Ballad finally. At first I wasn't sure I was liking it, but then it got... ugh I don't wanna use the worlds wicked and awesome but that about sums it up. I loved Deirdre and Luke. But i loved James and Nuala even more. Those were the kinda people I hung out with when I was in high school. The group of slightly odd people who had issues communicating. I used to doodle all over my arm. My dad was all "You're gonna die of ink poisoning"
wldhrsjen3[info]wldhrsjen3 on October 29th, 2009 01:52 pm (UTC)
Haha. My dad always said the same thing!

Holy snails! Those things are huge. And oddly cute.

I'd love to hear about your NaNo prep.
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 29th, 2009 01:58 pm (UTC)
I'm not coming to your house, ever, if you think they're cute. ;p

Yes, yes & yes please on the NanoPrep.

However, no on the giant snails *shudders* Why are they so big?
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 29th, 2009 01:59 pm (UTC)
Because they ate all the other snails. Because they come from Africa, where everything is large? Because no one told them to stop growing.

And yes - do tell about your NaNo prep!
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 29th, 2009 02:00 pm (UTC)
Can you imagine how many petunias they eat?
Captain of the Innuendo Squad[info]purple_shoes on October 29th, 2009 01:55 pm (UTC)
I had a pet garden snail for a few years during college, and I really wanted to get one of those giant snails! So cool!

But then I got a chinchilla instead.
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 29th, 2009 02:00 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I can see how snails and chinchillas go hand in hand.

Come out to Washington, where we have banana slugs that are almost that large!

Edited to add...I'm not sure whether the snails or the Bee Gees song playing in the background is the scariest part of that video!

a) I'm loving that "how deep is your love" is playing as background music for the snails.

b) yes! I would love to hear more about how you are preping!
John Higginbotham Jr[info]cloudshaper2k on October 29th, 2009 02:39 pm (UTC)
Sure! I'd be interested to know how you're prepping for this. Hmmm . . . does that make you a preppie?

The video needs captions like 'Rarr! I'm gonna feast on your blood . . . just as soon as I finish gumming through the flesh of your arm."
Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 29th, 2009 02:58 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking more that the slug trail will eat through their flesh, but . . .

Re #3 - Yes, please talk about NaNo prep! One of the activities I'm doing with my students is 'how do you even start?', because that was our #1 question from our Kickoff meeting; it'll give me something to discuss and use as example (look, you're a good example!), and...

I actually also want to know. Color me curious.

Tiffany Trent[info]tltrent on October 29th, 2009 03:23 pm (UTC)
What is this prepping that you speak of? I figured you'd just dive in w/wild abandon. ;)

Also, not watching snail vid. I can see from the still that it would make me quite ill. Och. To think we used to eat those things in Hong Kong!
(Anonymous) on October 29th, 2009 08:30 pm (UTC)
That is truly disgusting Tiffany. No eating snails. Bleck!

Sure, talk about Nano!

Can you honestly imagine them getting cozy to anything else? No. NO INDEED.
Jana Oliver: Victoria[info]crazywritergirl on October 29th, 2009 06:31 pm (UTC)
Sidestepping the whole "slugs need love too," topic.

Prepping for NaNo? You mean beyond stocking up on pretzels, soda, and some extra strength Advil?

Synopsis? Hah! Not in my world unless someone absolutely has to have one to like, buy a manuscript or something. I have no clue where my stories are headed until they're done and even then it's iffy.

I admire your organization, however. It will be fun to see just how close you hewed to said synopsis by the end of NaNo.

Maggie Stiefvater[info]m_stiefvater on October 30th, 2009 02:07 am (UTC)
Ha. This novel is already sold, so, um, yes, a synopsis is helpful.
