Random Poll: Pretty Please?
I'm having one of those moments where I need help with a decision but I can't provide any of the, you know, facts surrounding said decision. So I don't know if this will work or not. You guys know that I used to be an artist in my former professional life, before I made my living writing about teens who had a problem staying teens?

Well, I am working on a . . . um . . project. And I am trying to decide between two of my old styles; colored pencil & acrylic. I can't tell you what the project is. But I can ask you to tell me which of the styles you like better, which I know is the wrong part. Because I know that the answer would change if it was on a wall, a coaster, a book page, a t-shirt, or a website. But -- I have to remain cagey. Will you guys help me out anyway?

Do you like the acrylics?

Or the colored pencil?

I'm going to vote for the colored pencil. I love the softly blended colors, and perhaps it's just because of the samples that you used, but your use of light/shadow and reflections in the colored pencil works are gorgeous (I'm looking at you, Mr. Reflections in a Street Puddle. Bee-yoo-tee-ful.)

Love both, but colored pencil is better.

Hmmm...tough to say. Acrylics are a little more whimsical and fun. I'll go with those. Love them all, though. Beautiful.

Acrylics
I chose acrylics b/c to me, color pencil tries to be too realistic. I like the artsy feel of the acrylics. It feels more genuine.

I love both, but I like colored pencils more :)

I love both but if I had to choose, it will be colored pencil.

Pencils.

it really does depend on its use. the color pencil is more realistic, and has a bit more depth, but the acrylic is more stylized and would be great for graphic novel use.

if i had to pick just one not knowing anything about the project i'd say colored pencil.

Normally I say acrylics (my brother is an artist) but with your pictures, the pencil has a life breathed into it. It looks so real I could reach in and grab your mug of tea.

acrylic. (both are nice, though.)

I kind of prefer the acrylics more, cause it's really fluid and smoother.

Colored Pencil?
I was going to say acrylics until I scrolled down. There seems to be nice things you can add with color on the colored pencil pictures (like the horse or the white on the cat fur). That tea picture is too real! Amazing.

Acrylics.

The colored pencils are awesome but the acrylics appeal to me more. I LOVE all of the acrylics whereas I only feel that way for two of the pencils - the horse and the tea.

I really like both, but the colored pencil is my choice.

Colored Pencil
You are so talented! Both are fantastic but I prefer the crisp lines and details of the colored pencil.
Jeff Sampsonjeffsampson on September 9th, 2010 09:13 pm (UTC)
You are super multi-talented, wow! I'm gonna go with colored pencil too -- like someone else said, they seem richer.
templarwolftemplarwolf on September 9th, 2010 09:13 pm (UTC)
They're both good, though the randomness of the flying car in the acrylics wins me over to that side.

Acrylics!

It depends... Your style for both is very close. The color choices are the same. I think though if you like the more painterly look go for acrylic. If you want a more precise look, then colored pencil. Other than that I would consider the subject matter you have purposely kept secret. I guess it would depend on that subject lending itself to a particular medium.

Yes, I'm frustratingly not specifically answering your question. :)

pencil or acrylic
pencil, there much more i dunno, descriptive? like the cat poking out of the books, you can sort of give that context, where as the acrylic is more van gogh (is tht how u spell it? gough? googh?) plus its much better to highlight difffernt coulrs, like doing an autum pallet, with reds and oranges and yellows, but you can add tiny bits of green and blue to make something stand out without people knowing why it stands out.
